They only get a day/month? Smh.

Updated: Mar 10, 2019

The ever so wise Nicki Minaj stated back in 2010 on the smash "Monster," "you can be the king but watch the queen conquer." There's a lot of depth to that line. Let's be honest, as men even though we do face many challenges, the world is kind of set up for us. The fact we give so much attention to women's accomplishments is a testament to the reality that they've been long considered unable to do the things we do, or were actively hindered from doing so. We see now that they're coming, full force, and those with fragile masculinity are terrified. The real ones are excited about it.

The Faithful Black Men Association is a community created by us and for us, but it's no secret that we wouldn't exist without women. Perhaps I'm corny for intentionally publishing this post after International Women's Day, but I think it's time I highlight some of the important women in my life, whether they inspire me professionally or just hold a dear place in my heart. It shouldn't be limited to a day or month. Admittedly, I'm still a bit drunk writing this.

Mama - truly the GOAT. The older I get, the more I recognize just how incredible you are. Being the sole human woman of the house (shoutout my cat Weezy) you have always had the deck stacked against you, dealing with egos and irrationality. Still you rise, kick down more doors, and show love like no other. I love you and I truly can't wait until I can get you a house.

Muma (Grandma) - you're dealing with a lot health-wise right now, but of course you're still kicking. You've got a fire within you and I love it. Nobody can doubt your passion, and you care for others in such an undying way. You'll make it through, and live another 100 years because that's just your energy. We've got a bond that I treasure, and seeing you improve at text messaging brings me so much joy. Stay strong.

Kibby - I describe Kibby to a lot of my friends as the person who is brutally honest in a loving way. It's so important to have someone who isn't afraid to tell it like it is. People say that, but there truly are few people in this world who can love someone in an unfiltered way. I never feel judged or insulted by her. It's constant support, care, and she's just an amazing listener. Sometimes I think I don't deserve it. We're kindred spirits in many ways, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Andrea - *does handshake* man it feels wild to say you've been good friends with someone for 10 years. We've quite literally been through a lot, and seen each other go through twice as much. I've always admired your work ethic and the fact you don't take "no" for an answer. What you want, you get and you inspire others to do the same. Yeah people hate cause you bad and get mad IG likes, but I think it's your spirit that truly rattles people. You're a genuinely kind person, even to those you don't know and may not be deserving of it. We don't talk as much as I'd like us to, but I love it because when we do get together it's like nothing changes.

Regina - I don't think I'd make it as a writer without you lol all the advice, long ass text conversations and rejections from certain blogs has empowered us to get where we are. You continue to set the bar higher and higher, and motivate the fuck out of me to get my shit together. I've learned in what we do, you have to be your biggest fan because a lot of people don't support you until they can get something from you. Since we became friends (through Twitter) you've always big'd yourself up and it's truly admirable. I can't wait for the next big thing you do, and of course..."see you at the top."

Tori - We don't know each other well, but if social media told the story then we're best friends lmfao. I'm honored to know you and see your grind up to this point. It's tough. People see the Tweets or pictures with celebrities and think life is all gravy. I know the long hours you work, the stress you endure, and the reality of often questioning yourself. I admire how you stick to it, your positive energy, your support, and advice. I'm always watching and I think Derrick might have to watch out for you soon!

Yassy - We actually don't know each other lmao but it's another social media friendship. I'm just happy to see someone from Bergen County pushing the envelope in this industry. You're legit always somewhere, doing something cool. I love how you haven't gone Hollywood on people, and take time out of your day to give advice to rising artists. I identify with using your platform to uplift others, and I don't know if you realize how much your words and acknowledgment means to people. Keep it up. The best is yet to come. Say wassup to Akademiks for me too lmao

Dom - Drinking buddy!!! Greatest B&G hosts of all-time, and probably two of the best strollers to touch Cornell's campus, don't @ me. Leaving college shows you who your true pals are, and I'm happy to know you're one of them. It's always good energy when we link, and I'm so excited to see the moves you make moving forward. Might need some vocals for this mixtape I'm working on, so we'll be in touch. You're a real one.

Jawnest - How you gon' stop? Lol nah you're the homie and beyond the #slayface you're smart as hell. Very driven, aware of what you want, and how to get it. I never doubted your ability and I'm thankful for our occasional check-ins. They always help me to get my life in order. Until next link! I'll be sober, I promise lol

Ciara - BIARA! You've changed soooo much from the days of evil Ciara freshman year of high school lmao I love it though. I'm glad we've grown closer over the years, and I see you evolving into a strong ass woman. I never feel like I have to worry about you. And I appreciate the fact you got to know me so early on in us knowing each other, because any time we have a deep talk you seemingly always know what's best for me or what I really want. You make one of my best friends extremely happy, which of course I love. Beyond that, you do what's best for you always and aren't afraid of what anyone has to say about it. Nurse gang!!!

Nastya - Steezyyyyyy. We've been friends nearly ten years too but I think months ago was our first time really having an insightful discussion about something. And that's like completely okay lol you're always so fun to be around. A lot of people don't get you I feel, because you're super silly but you're actually incredibly intelligent and aware. You surprise me often with the things you say, and that's totally meant positively.

Jenny - Last, but certainly not least. Ya know, many people may say the fact you are here today would be a miracle but for me it just speaks to your strength which I think you don't even understand the magnitude of often. You're the strongest person I know, and I took it for granted. I took a lot for granted. You're a huge part of who I am today. You've shown me my flaws and made me better. You also look within yourself and are constantly improving. You've endured more than anyone should in life, but you just bounce back harder than ever. I'm happy to see you pushing forward and dreamchasing. It's about damn time you fully put the energy into yourself that you do for others. I love you, I adore you and I've got a lot to make up for so our lives together will be epic. I look forward to having you around to celebrate the big moments, and creating new ones together. God bless the parents who made ya.
